California Opportunity Youth Apprenticeship (COYA)

Apprenticeships for Youth Ages 16-24

ARE YOU 16-24 YEARS OLD?

The South Bay Workforce Investment Board is excited to announce that we have been awarded the California Opportunity Youth Apprenticeship grant. With this funding, we aim to create new youth apprenticeship programs and expand existing ones. We are seeking partnerships with K-12 schools, colleges, and employers to develop and support state-registered apprenticeships. These programs combine education with on-the-job training, leading to meaningful employment opportunities.

This program is intended for youth ages 16-24. Other criteria applies for this grant, but all youth interested in apprenticeships are encouraged to contact us for information about apprenticeship programs in your area of interest. Get added to our contact list through the resume portal below.

School Districts, County Offices of Education, and Colleges

The SBWIB will partner with you to develop your CTE pathway into an apprenticeship program. Our consultation services are no-cost, and apprenticeship programs are eligible to receive financial support and incentives from the COYA grant. Contact Dr. Dylan Farris to discuss your program.

Employers

Youth apprenticeships (ages 16-24) allow employers to train and mentor future employees, filling labor gaps with eager, skilled workers. This cost-effective model builds a talent pipeline tailored to industry needs, fostering long-term growth and workforce sustainability. Contact Dylan Farris or any member of the Special Projects team at the South Bay Workforce Investment Board to learn how to start an apprenticeship program.
