Health Care
Perioperative Specialty
Registered Nurse Training Pilot
Health care organizations are experiencing growing demand and short supply of experienced RNs in various specialty areas. Hospitals across Southern California sought options to build their specialty nursing workforce in a way that is sustainable, reduces cost, promotes collaboration, and minimizes competition across the region.
The Hospital Association of Southern California (HASC) in partnership with HealthImpact and funding from the South Bay Workforce Investment Board (SBWIB), have released the Perioperative Specialty RN Training Pilot Project Final Report in response to the growing demand and short supply of perioperative RNs.
Under this initiative, approximately 17 new and incumbent workers at the entry through professional levels were successfully trained through local adult schools, community colleges and the California State University system. Course content is available statewide to educate patient care staff in hospitals, clinics and long-term care facilities.
